Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer among women in developed countries. One woman out of ten can expect to develop breast cancer over the course of her lifetime, with a higher risk after menopause. Surgery plays an increasingly important role in the treatment and prevention of breast cancer. Mastectomy is a surgical procedure that consists in the removal of the breast gland, sometimes together with a variable area of breast skin. Breast reconstruction aims at restoring the shape and symmetry of the breast to make it look as natural as possible.
